According to Premier Marbella news sources, the new Coastal Protection Law passed on the 8th of May by a Popular Party majority will see over 154,000 properties on the coasts edge benefit from a relaxation in the coastal protection law. The new Coastal Protection Law, which outlines as ‘Protection and Sustainable Use of the Coastline in Spain’ has been severely criticized by the opposition and NGOs.

The list of beneficiaries which was recently made public by the PP, stated that there are 12 areas in which an amnesty was given on 3,400 properties built on the beach, there are grants of up to 75 years for 24,000 properties near the sea, and permission to carry out building works on more than 125,000 properties within the affected area, which until now were subject to multiple controls to make changes.

Leading Marbella property specialist Romano Keogh is confident that this change will be a huge relief to the vast number of property owners that have been affected with this problem especially on the Costa del Sol. The most publicized case being that of Antonio Banderas property La Gaviota in Los Monteros, Marbella.
